Bathurst 1000 important things to know

The Repco Bathurst 1000 is a touring race of 1,000 km or 620 miles, hence the name and it is a touring race held each year presently sponsored by Supercheap Auto, an Australian automotive retailer that was founded in 1972. When the 1,000 km Bathurst race first began on November 20th, 1963, it was called the Armstrong 500 and didn’t actually take place where it’s now, but instead was held in Phillip Island, Victoria at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit. It was called by race organizers, the Light Car Club of Australia, “the world’s premier production saloon car race.” Then in 1963, the venue for the race was moved to its present location at the Mount Panorama Circuit. Since it’s beginning in 1963, there have been numerous changes made to the even including lengthening it, adding different series and car classes, implementing and taking away rules, and multiple title sponsor changes. The most recent 2017 winners were Australians David Reynolds and Luke Youlden. Each drove a Holden VF Commodore and completed a total of 161 laps, averaging 139 km/h or 86.3844 mph.

Practice

One fun way to see all the favorites for the race, and all the racers in general, is to watch the practice rounds of the Bathurst 1000. Sometimes, the practice rounds are as exciting, if not more so, than the race day itself. Reason being, the racers are practicing and during the practice, they’re trying to see what works and what doesn’t on the actual course. So, they will take more risks because there is no consequence of crashing out of the race if they fail. It’s really something to watch if you’ve never experienced it before.

Bathurst 1000 Race Day 2023

Even though the practice is really exciting, nothing compares to the Repco Bathurst 1000 Race Day. It truly is a race day unlike any other. It’s 12 hours long, the racers push themselves to the limit, and they’re doing it on actual roads and not just an oval close track that you see on Nascar or a closed winding track like you see in Indycar. It’s real-life racing that pushes people to the limit and then some.

The Australian rodeo association also follows the Wrangler NFR and the whole nation watch NFR live. Aussie cowboys and cowgirls are attent at the Las Vegas rodeo during the National Finals Rodeo.
